Volatility can help with the vig

Problem number 3 is partially dealt with by problem number 2. Historically, in all forms of gambling, bets with high volatility have higher vigorish. The casino/bookmaker has to protect themselves against the volatility because a deviant line or insider trading, when it does occur, is much more costly with very volatile bets.

Obviously a payout of 1.10 can have a maximum advantage of only 10%. A payout of 30:1 could, in theory, have an edge of 3000%. Extreme examples obviously but they illustrate the general point. With some spread bets the payout can effectively be hundreds to one.

Wagering on very volatile bets is not something for part-timers obviously but if you somehow can find an angle then you may be able to get rich quick, which is out of the question usually for fixed odds.
