There is lots of public money bet on the Derby, and because of that, there are lots of high priced winners. Granted some horses that win the Derby have that as their only true highlight of their career, but some high priced Derby winners prove they were overlooked. Silver Charm is a perfect example of that.
Silver Charm was not a real high price in the Derby. He went off at 4-1 and paid $10. I had him in the Derby because I loved his 2nd place finish in the Santa Anita Derby. (He spent 3/4 of the race battling for the lead with Serena's Song, then still had almost enough left to hold off Free House.)
It's true that Silver Charm didn't get as much respect as he was due in the Preakness. He went off at either 3-1 or 7-2 in that race, and I was glad to bet on him again, though he only won because of a disastrous trip by Touch Gold.
I agree WE will not win the triple crown, but he does have a better chance at the Preakness than the Belmont. I don't see them as equal odds. He wasn't pushed in the Derby, Pimlico favors front runners, and the Belmont is just too long for a front runner to be the true favorite. Plus if he should win the Preakness, someone will stick some early speed in the Belmont to blow him out.
I disagree. They are already sticking a LOT of early speed into the Preakness. It looks like Lukas has added Table Limit for just that purpose. And Booklet's trainer has already said he would challenge for the lead. I don't think War Emblem will survive that. But if he somehow does survive the Preakness, I don't see many trainers trying it AGAIN in the Belmont. War Emblem will have already proved he can withstand pressure for the lead. If he wins the Preakness, his odds in the Belmont will be under 2-1, and probably justified.
