steping on a golf ball when they used to have the driving range in the middle of the track. I think he would have won if that didn't happen.

I remember it as stepping on a pin or something. No matter, I agree he was one of the all-timers and should have won. Having the kid Franklin riding him didn't help any, either.

You are right, there have been a lot of good horses that have had the chance since Affirmed. 3 major stakes races in 5 weeks is a bitch, especially when other horses are coming and going, some coming off a nice rest, prepared for just that race.

That's true, although most of the ones I remember lost to a good horse who ran in at least one and usually both of the previous Triple Crown races. Alysheba losing to Bet Twice, Silver Charm losing to Touch Gold, Real Quiet losing to Victory Gallup, Sunday Silence losing to Easy Goer.
