Hellmuth

I've read a few interviews with Phil, and he readily admits that he's not proud of the way he acts at the poker table. He was in his early 20's when he started winning big, and maturing process has been very slow, but he claims he is trying, and it does show. I play with him on UB from time, and he is a very nice guy. He's talkative about the major tournament scene, and he welcomes everyone to the game.

As far as his talent, consider this. He's been playing the World Series since the late 80's, figure 13 years, maybe he plays 15 events a year, that's maybe 200 events. The average event probably has had 200 people over that time. An average player should win 1 bracelet over this span. Hellmuth, who is probably steaming 45% of the time, has won 7. If you're that much better than everyone else, I can see how you're gonna be pissed when you outplay someone, only to get knocked out of the tournament. Phil wrote a few articles about last year's World Series main event. He was completely on his game, building a huge stack without taking any chances, when he picks up AKs against Robert Varkonyi. Phil makes a good move, gets all his chips in against Varkonyi who has Q10, and loses. How's the guy supposed to react?
