In Response To: Can you clarify terms? (Warren)

Think about the following.

You have an "edge" when you are so much better than your opponents that you overcome the vig AND expences.

Take into consideration the average tournament has at least a 5% vig along with all the travelling and living expences that a tourny player has.
It also has extremely high variance!

That and the fact that the field of players you are playing in major tourneys are not soft so how much of an edge could the best player have over the field.
Obviously not that much when unknown and bad players have a good chance of winning!
How many bad tennis players or bad chess players do you see winning the top events?
The skill factor in most poker tournaments is way overated.

I actually believe that quite of few of the so called "top" tourny poker players are nothing but lucky gamblers who happen to fall in the positive distribution of results.
(they won big early in their career and have picked up backing because of that name)

The best poker players in the world (the ones actually playing with an edge!) are ring game/cash players.
