Poker books, places to play

So I am down here getting settled in in Miami Beach, and I have returned to one of my favorite casinos - The Suncruz boats!
This has got to be the dumbest of the dumb when it comes to gambling. The rules are quite good 6d, RSA, LS, DS and they give you $100 in match plays for bringing $1000. If you are really bad, and many people are, they will give you extra matchplays, the dealers will be told to cheat for you, they'll let you double after splitting aces, etc all because the owner knows his clientel is dumb and he doesn't want them to never return - gotta lose slow.
In any case, I am sure my blackjack days there are numbered..
But assuming the poker players come from the same circle as the blackjack players, I want to learn to play poker!
Now I don't know a damn thing about the game - ok, I lied - I know which hands beat which hands most of the time. Anyways, could some people recommend a couple of good books to read for someone who would want to take a mathematical approach / count / etc to the game... Also anything on cheaters, teams, etc what to watch out for.
Finally, although most my first games will be on this beautiful boat, I wonder where there are bad players elsewhere.. Any advice?
Thanks.
Sean
