Shuffling machines

In Response To: You think? (D)

In Cali a few months back, they started a new game at the "grand opening" of a few tables with machines. They were going to try them out. Over the next few weeks, I heard players (mostly squares) mouthing off about the machines. One guy thought it was a conspiracy!?!? I understand the "hesitation" of something new like this, but as I sat there and listened to people at the table I realized that if they lost a hand, they suddenly hated the machine! If they won a hand, they didn't say anything (except maybe, "Hey dealer, should I tip the machine instead of you?"). IMO, players will now just blame the machines (and the dealer), instead of just the dealer when they catch bad breaks. I guess the great thing about a deck of cards is that it really doesn't matter WHO (or WHAT) shuffles. If the shuffle is thorough, then EVERYONE will get their fair share of breaks, bad beats, etc over the long haul. Admittedly, when I first saw the machines, I was like, "Hmmmmmm! I dunno about this!" But, when I saw other people's ridiculous reactions when they lost a hand, I decided that I didn't care if a monkey shuffled and dealt, as long as the shuffle is thorough and the deal is fair. I mean, do people really think that if THEY were allowed to shuffle (and closely watched, therefore the shuffle was fair), that they would do ANY BETTER???????????
