I think we've talked about this before. Most 'pros' at the 50/75ish level play about the same. There isnt much differentiation in their games. They all can play. So what separates the winners from the losers? Its definitely discipline. But as onepac mentions- its probably not discipline in the way you would think about discipline- when you first start out- as in hand selection (e.g. folding KJ UTG).
I believe- its the ability to know yourself well enough to adapt to every situation you encounter- and as you mentioned- some days- that means simply not playing. Most of the time- that means understanding how well you play v. the other people you play against- and how to play against them- and why. But sometimes- it translates into not playing at all.

We both knew someone- back in the day- who simply didnt want to take the time to really think about the game in general- or his game specifically-- enough to figure out- how well he played. That led to him not knowing his limitations- and led to him playing in spots- he shouldnt have put himself in. Its hard to be truly game selective- and accurate in your decisions- when you cant even evaluate your own strengths and weaknesses first. Its the toughest thing to do in poker- and its also the most important.
