my two cents on discipline in poker

since no one here knows me, im a old friend of D's. and ive been a boxed seat member from the beginning but just havent chosen to post until recently. we came up on the redchip games together in the late 90's and worked our way up to making solid money in the 75-150 type games. until online came around and D decided he didnt want to leave his apartment anymore. one thing about D. he plays way better than he lets on here, as long as there is a flop. just dont take a piece of him in a stud game, then hes just as bad as advertised.

once you know how to play reasonably well, and understand your own limitations, i agree that discipline is the most important factor, and on alot of levels.

personally, losing almost never bothers me anymore in poker(it does in sports, not sure why). but on the days where my brain chemicals just arent right or something is going on outside of poker that has me irritated, when i have any loss that has me feeling really miserable i just quit. plain and simple. unless the game is in the top 5% of all the games you play, you are just better off quitting right before your decision making suffers.

and not just your hand decisions, as tekari said, your game selection suffers. you want to play bigger to get out and such. i dont win the most money in the games i play in, but i might have the smallest swings and the most consistant results. i attribute most of it to quiting while stuck. just my 2 cents
