Ecuador are newcomers to the world cup. As with Senegal, this means they get outsiders odds without neccessarily deserving them. In fact, in qualification they ousted the mighty Brazil, only runners-up to Argentina. Italy are flamboyant and skillful and deserve to be favourites, but the 11.00 betshop.com are offering on Ecuador is certainly value.

For those looking for a big score, a wager on Ecuador to win the tournament is probably the best longshot wager available in the world cup. They won't do it of course-but they stand a small chance of getting to the latter knock-out stages by which time the odds on them should have reduced dramatically leading to a profitable hedging opportunity of 20-30 times your initial stake. This would be best done at betfair (for non-Americans only unfortunately), where you can get 335.00, two and a half times better odds than with any bookmaker.
