Home teams usually do good in the world cup. No sporting event generates the emotion that a world cup game does in front of a home crowd. I think there is value in the home teams this time, mainly because Asian teams in the past have been very disappointing. As for the records, Mexico went 3-1-0 in 86 before losing to Germany in a shoot-out. Spain went a disappointing 1-2-2 in 82. Argentina won in 78 at home, going 5-1-1. And Germany won in 74 at home.
