I have compiled all of our 2002 NFL host picks on an Excel spreadsheet. Included are all sides, totals, season wins, and teasers for preseason, regular season, and playoff games. My picks are included too. The only picks not included are props. The date each pick was posted is included, along with the game date, game score, and result of the pick. Teasers are at the bottom, separated from the other picks by a blank row. That's a total of 534 picks: 145 by StevieY, 243 by Fezzik, 95 by Don Peszynski, and 51 by me.
I have asked David to set up a link to that file; hopefully he will be able to figure out how to do it today.
Comments on the format are welcome. I am planning on using that same format to keep track of our 2003 host football picks weekly, so anytime you want you can see how our hosts are doing for the season to date.
One particular 2002 game demonstrates our use of widely-available prices. On Sunday, 3 November 2002, Cleveland hosted Pittsburgh. I picked Cleveland on Wednesday, 30 October, calling the line CLE +3. Fezzik immediately posted a follow-up: "PIT/clev is lined at 3.2. Don’t settle for +3. Wait if you cannot get 3.5." I flew to Las Vegas on Thursday, and was able to bet CLE +3.5. StevieY picked Cleveland on Thursday, saying "Right now it is +3 EV most places. Since the last movement was headed toward Pit, we will wait and see if we can get a free +3.5 since most places don’t allow buying the half point off a 3 with odds (if you have a places that does allow it, go buy it). If the line doesn’t move the rest of the week, take it at +3 +100, if it moves back down to +3 -110, buy the half point to +3.5 -130. Whatever movement happens by Saturday evening is what line I will go by." Fezzik also picked Cleveland, on Friday, saying: "CLEV vs. Pit (play as soon as 3.5 becomes available)." On Saturday StevieY posted: "A few 3.5’s popped up, hope you got one, but the majority of places left it at +3 +100 so I will grade it with that number." The game finished Cleveland 20, Pittsburgh 23, so the choice of spread made a difference between a win and a push. I called it a push, StevieY called it a push, and Fezzik called it a win. Some members thought StevieY should have called it a win, but he responded with: "Not too worried about it. ... People on here know. I am not too big on posted records or historical records and their significance. I think people take them way too seriously."
