i'm hoping my penny jar will allow me to renew my box seats this football season!! if so, i'll have a lot of things to say about halfs and half betting.

while it is true that the number of points scored in the two halfs is remarkably similar, i think that simply looking at cases where the half line is not 50 percent of the game line is pretty simplistic.

a better starting point is to understand that, while ties essentially do not happen in the full game, they are the most likely single result in the half game. betters on small dogs win these half time ties.

historically, certain full game line and total ranges do remarkably well in predicting first and second half results.

the halftime bet on the second half is a whole different animal. 'the half book', by jack granowsky, and its two updates, had some useful things to say about this type of betting. i fear that, with the author's death, gambler's bookstore is not keeping the book in print.
