In Response To: From what I have seen... (StevieY)

I watched Sele in his last appearance throw some pretty puffy curveballs off his 93 pr/hr hardstuff--Yup, had'em off balance though despite( ah, because of Stevie? ) the differential.

As Al Gore's speech writer used to say-" C'mon Al it's not necessarily what you pitch'em its HOW you deliver it up...boy!( and BTW the one and only El Tiante had more arm slots than a row of...whata'ya call them machines?...out in Vegas. )

Well, El Tiante succeeded, where Gore failed, when neither of them had their best stuff because Tiant new that in order to fool the world ( and the batter ) you had to have a bit of the fool in you, yourself--a quality which dear Al Gore could never quite accomodate as witnessed by his unfailing ability to be too frikin stiff in all his deliveries. Took himself WAY too seriously, you know.

( And note, Tiant used to take a shower while smokin a big'ole Cuban cigar, and would constantly play the affable fool before the media while cutting the opposition to ribbons with his vast arsenal of swively hipped " where is the stinker release point gonna be this time, you rolly poley Castro convertible, mother humpin, tobacci spittin lover of good'ole junk ball wisdom, you! " )

Now, the handicapping question of the day is this boys: Is this Hermanson kid's baseball soul more closely alligned to that quality that DOES NOT distinquish Al Gore, and which spared us all of at least four years of his very hittable stuff, or is there indeed something transcendent of mere " stuff " which we can link to Hermanson, and which we can identify him by. In other words, can he indeed rise above the expectations we ALREADY have about him based upon the sum total of all his appearances--whether they occur this year or some other. Is there something special about him which will bring about a transformation that makes him a truly better pitcher now as opposed to the past. I really can't believe the addition of one pitch can bring about this change, just as in the hand's of Al Gore the Gettyburg address would most likely come off sounding mawkish and lame, and not change our opinion about him ( for long ).

Now, in El Tiante's hands ( a one time flame-thrower BTW ), well, think of the possibities, the aberrations and delicatesse treatments he would give to the Address, and how about another transcendent warrior EL Pedro ( who's also quite a playful tyke like Tiant used to be ), what would he have made of the Address--what does he infact make of THE ADDRESS, the delivery, and the pitch of the ball? It's all in HOW you deliver it boys, and there is no such thing as an " out " pitch or a new found miracle pitch--if it wasn't there before you ain't gonna find it there later IMHO...
