I wouldn't exactly call it post hoc, I first noticed it back in his start vs Minnesota. He struck someone out on a changeup, I just did a double take, it dove away very good. He always had a changeup but it was so bad, he rarely threw it. I watched the rest of that game and he was throwing it effectively, good arm slot, good motion, no giveaway. I have been on his last 2 starts, and both games have been the same, that has been his out pitch. As long as he continues to spot it well(throwing it out of the zone), he can always use it as his out pitch. That being said, the numbers also showed one more thing, he has been very streaky. Bad April, good May, bad June, great July. With any decent number, I will be on him tomorrow, facing a Florida team who is awful on the road. I will watch his outing, see how he looks win or lose, see if he continues to spot that change well and doesn't overthrow(which has always gotten him in trouble).
