Not sure this applies but I think it's interesting regardless.

Elias showed that in baseball, one-run games are won by the worse team as often as by the superior team (50%). In games that were won by larger margins, however, the better team won much more often. The point was to dispell the "great teams win close games" myth. Essentially what is says it that if you look at a single game decided by a close margin you can't tell which team is the better team but if you look at a single game decided by a large margin it is very likely that the winning team was the better team.
