We are talking 2 different things. If you take a bet with the idea that you will hedge down the line, that is one thing(still don't believe in it but if that is what you want to do, then do it), but if you are hedging because you bet too much in the first place or you are scared, that is different. Why anyone would bet more than they are comfortable with, for any reason, is beyond me. If you are taking a 40-1 bet to win the SB with the idea of hedging it should they get that far, why not bet them at 20-1 to win the conference, or a little on both?

I didn't mean to say that you hedge every bet you think has lost its edge, but that is the only reason. I was talking more in the subject of future bets, where things have lots of time to change. The Cubs/Astros example is about as bad as my Seattle/Oakland example. If I bet Houston at even money, those 3 were out, and the line went up to -210, I may bet Houston again at +200. No three players will equal a change from Houston at at least -110 to Chi -220. The only position that would come close to that big of a change is the pitcher, but then I would have no action.
